HOW SELLING YOUR PRE-LOVED DRESS WORKS

BRING IT IN FOR INSPECTION
Drop off your gown for a quick style and condition check. It just needs to be in excellent, damage-free condition and suitable for our current collections.

GET IT FRESHLY CLEANED
All pre-loved dresses must be professionally dry-cleaned before hitting our rails. Feel free to bring it in for approval first before arranging the dry cleaning!

2 MONTH DISPLAY PERIOD
We’ll display and promote your dress in the boutique for an initial 2-month period.

FLEXIBLE NEXT STEPS
If it hasn't sold after 60 days, we'll check in with you. You can choose to lower the price to extend the listing, collect your gown, or donate it to The Prom Loft.
MONEY SPLIT EXAMPLE:
Agreed Selling Price: Set upfront based on style, condition, and demand (capped at a maximum of £300).
Your Payout: You keep two-thirds (66%) of the final sale price (up to £200 cash back!).
Our Fee: The Prom Loft retains one-third (33%) to cover boutique space, styling, and marketing.

HOW TO HIRE A DRESS
1. Our Hire collection
We will select specific new dresses to form our Hire Collection. Every hire dress will be dry -cleaned and beautifully presented to ensure that you look your best at your prom celebration.
2. Simple, clear hire prices
Hire prices will be set according to the value of the dress, generally at around 35-40% of its retail price. The hire price will always be made clear before a booking is made.
3. Refundable security deposit
A refundable security deposit will be taken for every hire at the time of collection. The amount will vary according to the value of the dress, with an anticipated deposit of around £100-£150.
The deposit will be returned following the safe and timely return of the dress, subject to its condition
Worked example:
Dress retail price £300
Hire price £120 (40% of retail price)
Refundable security deposit- £150 (50% of retail price)
4. Cleaning
Professional cleaning after each wear is included in the hire price. We will arrange the cleaning so that each dress is cared for appropriately and prepared for its next wearer.
Customers should not attempt to wash or dry clean a hired dress themselves.
5. Normal wear is expected
We want every customer to enjoy their prom; small signs of normal wear are part of hiring a dress and will not result in additional charges. Charges would only be considered where there is significant damage, loss, unauthorised alterations, missing parts or failure to return the dress. Any deductions from the security deposit will be fair and transparent.
6. Dresses are hired for a defined period
Each booking will have an agreed collection and return date. The dress must be returned by the agreed date so that we have sufficient time to check, clean and prepare it before it is potentially hired again. Late returns may incur a charge.
7. The dress remains the property of The Prom Loft
Dresses must not be permanently altered, cut, dyed or otherwise changed without our agreement.

PRE-LOVED DRESSES
1. Dresses are selected by The Prom Loft
We will ask to view your dress physically. Dresses will need to be be in excellent condition and suitable for our collection. If we accept a dress, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to sell it.
2. Dresses will need to be professionally cleaned
All preloved dresses will need to be professionally dry-cleaned before being displayed. You can choose to bring your dress to us already professionally dry cleaned or you can bring it to us first so that we can look at it together. If we are able to accept your dress, you will then need to arrange for it to be professionally dry cleaned.
3. Monies
We will agree the selling price with you before the dress is displayed, taking into account its original price, age, condition, style and current demand. When your dress has sold, you will receive two thirds of the final selling price and The Prom Loft will receive one third.
No preloved dress will be offered for sale for more than £300 therefore the maximum you will receive for any dress that The Prom Loft sell for you is £200.
4. Two-month selling period
Once accepted, we will display your dress and offer it for sale for an initial period of two months. At the end of the two months, if your dress hasn't sold, we'll check back in with you to agree what happens next.
You will be able to choose from the following options:
- Review the selling price and leave the dress with us for a further agreed period.
- Collect your dress.
- Choose to donate the dress to The Prom Loft.
6. Donating your dress
You can choose to donate your dress to The Prom Loft when you first bring it to us or at a later stage.
By donating your dress, you are enabling The Prom Loft to sell it at a reduced price, helping us make prom celebrations more accessible to young people and families with a lower budget.
If a donated dress has not sold within the initial two-month period, we may choose to donate it to a local charity, benefiting the local community.
7. Our promise
We will always be clear about the agreed selling price and our commission. We will also communicate transparently with you about your dress while it is with us.
Our aim is to give beautiful prom dresses more than one opportunity to be worn and loved, whilst making prom celebrations more affordable, accessible and sustainable.
